Can anyone advise me on what treadmill to buy? I need to do speed walking and slow walking, not so much jogging as I have knee trouble. I've seen a reasonably priced manual treadmill which folds up neatly. Are these good for what I want to use it for or are they just for running. I would be very grateful for any hints on the best buy. Cheers guys and gals.

Don't get me wrong, I get out and walk as much as I can. I don't have a car and have to walk most places. I also have a young child that is with me when I go places, and where I live it is all country lanes with no pavements and high hedgerows. Not the place to go walking with a kid. I get on a bus and travel to the Mumbles promenade when I can and my walking increases in the summer time, as I prefer to be out and about, beaches, parks, leisure centre etc......but I just need that extra facility at home so when I can't get out I've always got that option. I'm waiting for the new pool to open and all the family, that's 6 of us, will all get down there and swim when we can.
Thanks Walrus, take care. xx-

Fair points!
Treadmills are going to be as bad for the knees as walking, but in those circumstances they would be good. Sorry I can't recommend one. Elliptical trainers are also good, but ours hurts my knees.-

The only thing that I know Catzy is don't buy new, or haggle like hell, the profit margin is horrendous, there are very many good buys second hand, folk soon seem to get fed up with them.

I'm also wondering if a treadmill will be good for your knee
Maybe cycling would be better.
I have a 7 cm pin in my left knee as a result of a skiing accident 30 years ago and that leg is weak. My doc advised me to exercise , walking but not up and down steps and resting every 20 minutes or so . Exercise - yes - but easy does it and rest in between .
Good luck XX-

I think could be right. I have an exercise bike at home and that is low impact, so my knees don't hurt so bad after that. Thank you for the advice.

Best thing to do is open the door and go for a walk. Wnen you get to the swimming pool, you can get some really good exercise that will not knacker your knees.
